The following are comments delivered by Taylor at the December 13, 2023 HUSD Governing Board General Meeting
Madam President and members of the board and cabinet. I wish to speak to you this evening regarding Transparency.
I believe it an understatement to iterate that parents were left dissatisfied following last month’s board meeting. Between protests, emails, letters, Facebook groups, phone calls, and public discourse, the resounding call among each is for more transparency.
Some who herald the call may not even know for what it is they petition, or even what more transparency might look like. The resounding commonality with every plea is one for answers: we the parents just want to know something. What is going on?
Yet, with the cries still echoing from the Power Ranch incident, I see tonight on the agenda, item 5.4, where another teacher is being let go, this time from HHS. This particular case was made notable from an online journalist’s report being circulated through several circles. And with the Power Ranch memory fresh in our minds, no official statements or answers from HUSD.
And now a third incident, at Bridges Elementary, just last week. Rumors fly, speculations abound, but no word from HUSD. How many instances of school employees being relieved of duty for…well we don’t know why…but how many must we have—how many demonstrations or angry parents must we have—before the school district provides something.
Whether it is a question of not knowing how to communicate or refusal to communicate, something must change. Please do not ignore us, all we ask for is answers. Thank you.
